To fulfill the strategy to be the number one container port in the south island of New Zealand, the Lyttelton Port of Christchurch wants to demonstrate to customers that they have excellence in every area. From their perspective, having a world class terminal operating system is critical.

LPC has been able to improve productivity, increasing throughput by 40% over the last 5 years and the terminal operating system has been the key to helping them to reach those goals. They have been able to do this without having to increase land area or labor staff by automating processes. N4 has also helped them to drive toward the efficient planning of the yard, efficient discharge of the ships, and increase scalability.

During the earthquake, customers were still able to access the information they needed through N4 on the web even though their system went down.
Lyttelton Port of Christchurch (LPC), a vital link to the New Zealand economy, suffered major damage in several earthquakes in late 2010 and early 2011 and filed the largest corporate insurance claim ever in the history of the southern hemisphere. The damage to the terminal was extensive with 1000 ton cranes lifted off their rails, major distortion to the yard layout and quay walls being pushed into the sea. More than 40 LPC employees lost their homes. Through the scary and uncertain time, the employees have demonstrated special character and have stepped up and gotten the job done, ensuring that the essential services got through.
LPC has an interesting time ahead with a rebuild situation on top of a growth scenario. N4 has given them the ability to keep growing and expanding without any barriers. When ports and terminals need more berths, more land, more cranes, Navis makes it seamless to keep expanding volumes.
