Navis Launches WebAccess for Real-Time Container Information Exchange and Reporting Via the Internet

Powerful Browser-Based Solution Enables Container Terminal Community to Access Data and Conduct Business Transactions On-Line

OAKLAND, CA (January 22, 2002)--Navis LLC, the world's leader in container handling software solutions, today announced the launch of WebAccess, a new application that provides all members of the port/terminal community with a Web-browser interface for entering and accessing real-time container information and reports. Shipping lines, trucking companies, railroad operators, agents, consignees and government agencies will benefit from the ability to securely access and update their container information through the Internet, using information managed by Navis' SPARCS and EXPRESS integrated terminal software.

WebAccess enables terminal customers to accomplish many business transactions with the terminal on-line through a standard Web browser and keep updated as containers arrive, move through, and leave the gate. Terminal customers have the power to access terminal transaction data, as well as a wide range of real-time container information, including load and discharge lists and stowplans. WebAccess features the ability for trucking companies to schedule appointments and verify and clear outstanding demurrage charges on a container before a truck arrives for pickup. In addition, demurrage payments can be made on-line via WebAccess either on terminal credit or by credit card secured by VeriSign™, streamlining gate operations.

Terminals will benefit from improved customer service capabilities using WebAccess, with simple, immediate 24-hour Web-browser access to vital information. Terminal customers are assured that the data available through WebAccess is accurate because it is updated in real-time, directly from the terminal system. Reports created with WebAccess are completely customizable to suit each terminal and its customers, using data from Navis’ powerful terminal management solution. In addition, WebAccess can be integrated with a terminal’s current Web site or be customized to reflect the terminal’s own company identity.

After successful implementation in October, 2001, WebAccess is in production use at P&O Newark Container Terminal in New Jersey, USA. Several additional terminals will be adopting the technology in the next quarter.

“We are proud to continue Navis’ commitment to creating tools for increased terminal productivity with the launch of WebAccess,” said Erik Tiemroth, co-founder and executive vice president of Navis. “WebAccess is the conduit that enables information to move as fast as the freight.”
