NAVIS LLC ANNOUNCES FREE ACCESS TO SHIP FILES FOR TERMINALS THROUGH WEB-BASED SHIPSHARE LIBRARY

Valuable Ship Information Available on Internet Database to Benefit Navis Customers

OAKLAND, CA (September 10, 2001) -- Navis LLC, the leader in container handling software solutions, today announced the availability of ShipShare, an Internet-accessible ship file exchange. The Navis ShipShare library contains a growing number of ship files created with Navis ShipEditor for use with SPARCS and PowerStow, Navis' industry-leading container handling and stowage coordination solutions. Ports and terminals with access to ShipShare will save valuable time and effort by relying on the free ship files available for download.

"Accessing shared ship files streamlines the process for introducing vessels that call at our customers' facilities," says Dr. Erik Tiemroth, executive vice president and co-founder of Navis. "The ShipShare library gives terminals instant access to vessel profile information generated by our community of customers worldwide. ShipShare enhances the customer's experience by helping them get started with new files as quickly as possible."

Since shipping lines continuously change the rotation of vessels that call at terminals, sharing files makes it easier for all Navis customers. Each time a shipping line uses Navis technology as its container handling solution, it creates a base profile for each vessel using Navis' ShipEditor software. The ShipShare library contains free ShipEditor files containing key information for each vessel, including ship type, hatch covers, slot restrictions, and reefer locations. The ShipShare files are easily searchable by shipping line, vessel name, Lloyd's code, and call sign.

Navis continues to gather ship files for the ShipShare library from shipping lines and terminals, and is soliciting contributions to create a more data-rich resource. Shipping lines gain quality control of ship file information available to terminals by adding their ship files to the ShipShare library.

"We encourage our SPARCS and PowerStow users to look on-line at the ship files in ShipShare and contribute when possible," said Marty Case, Support Engineer at Navis. "As always, we are committed to providing the best service for our customers. This information is available for Navis clients who want to save resources when preparing ship files."
