Best Practices in YMS to Streamline DC Operations
OAKLAND, Calif. May 03, 2005 — Navis LLC, a global leader in enterprise software solutions for supply chain execution, announced that Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated (CCBCC) is currently using Navis Yard Yard Management software system to optimize operations at its largest production center based in Charlotte, North Carolina, with consideration of rolling out Navis Yard companywide.
Navis Navis Yard allows the world's leading retailers, manufacturers and 3PLs to increase capacity, lower operating costs and exceed service goals by instituting industry best practices in yard management and supply chain execution through increased visibility across the logistics network and optimized DC operations beyond the four walls of the warehouse.
CCBCC selected Navis as its "preferred supplier" to replace its six-year-old, in-house yard management system (YMS) after an extensive evaluation. Navis Navis Yard was chosen because:
- It will support CCBCC's primary motivation to institute best practices in YMS.
- Its functionality fits current CCBCC YMS processes without modifications.
- It is compatible with CCBCC's new SAP system
"We're eliminating chaos here," said Ronald J. Hammond, Senior Vice President of Operations at CCBCC. "Navis Navis Yard allows warehouse operations to manage more than 500 trailer movements a day while maintaining high customer service levels, minimizing out-of-stocks and providing the enterprise with real-time visibility to loads and their contents at the yard."
Hammond added that CCBCC production facilities and regional logistics centers will greatly benefit from Navis Navis Yard as they face higher complexity levels. Other driving forces in CCBCC's YMS strategy include attaining tighter control of dock times and driver wait time to mitigate the new Department of Transportation hours of service regulations, improving safety by eliminating congestion at the yard and gate, automating appointment scheduling with a web-based system, eliminating manual date entry and administration, and providing optimized, real-time work instructions to switchers.
"Major retailers are looking for a holistic approach to DC operations by addressing problems beyond the four warehouse walls, streamlining the entire flow of goods from gate to dock to yard for increased DC capacity without new investment in facilities or equipment," said John Dillon, CEO at Navis. "Our Navis Yard Yard Management System continuously re-evaluates work plans, making adjustments to assignments and dispatches based on real-time conditions in order to minimize schedule slip and optimize productivity. We expect Navis Navis Yard to increase productivity at CCBCC's distribution centers and across its warehousing and transportation functions."
